Bulldogs Welcome Tigers and Panthers in Pair of Doubleheaders

THE HILL| After a thrilling rivalry victory over Alabama State, the Alabama A&M women's basketball team continue their three-game homestand by welcoming the Texas Southern Tigers and Prairie View A&M Panthers on Saturday and Monday, respectively. Both contests will come as the first of two in tandem with the men's team. Saturday's game will tip-off at 2 p.m. and Monday's start time is set for 5:30 p.m.

Live streaming is available for all four games via Bulldogs All-Access with Mo Carter and Vann Pettaway on the call. Tickets for each game can be purchased here. Saturday's game will serve as our Heroes Appreciation Day. Fans are encouraged to wear red, white and blue as we recognize Huntsville's police, fire rescue and first responders.

For the third consecutive year, the Bulldogs (11-6, 4-1) claimed the contest against Southwestern Athletic Conference foe Alabama State, defeating the Hornets 54-47 in front of a crowd of nearly 6,000 fans. Both Lauryn Pendleton and Kalia Walker finished in double figures, paced by Pendleton's 17 points and two steals. Walker picked up 13 points, going a perfect six of six from the foul line. Mailyn Wilkerson added nine points of her own, including scoring three of the four triples the Bulldogs made. Jaiyah Harris-Smith led the Bulldog defense, grabbing 10 rebounds and two steals.

Texas Southern (6-10, 5-0 SWAC) looks to extend its five-game winning streak after going undefeated in conference play so far this season. Courtlyn Loudermill led the offense for the Tigers in their contest against Alcorn State, where she added 19 points to the Texas Southern total. Alaysia Fantroy added seven points of her own and tallied 11 rebounds. In their game against Jackson State, Fantroy was the lone Tiger to score in double figures, finishing with 20 points, six rebounds, two blocks and one steal. She received week 11's SWAC Newcomer of the Week for her performance, her third award of the season.

The Tigers lead the current SWAC standings after posting a 5-0 record while the Bulldogs trail just shortly behind in second place, after going 4-1 so far this season. A Bulldog victory will level the teams, as each will hold a 5-1 record. Texas Southern leads the all-time series 20-15 with the Bulldogs, though AAMU has won four of the last five meetings, including two victories on The Hill.

In a game originally scheduled as a single contest but rescheduled due to inclement weather, the Panthers of Prairie View A&M (5-10, 2-4 SWAC) will travel to Huntsville for AAMU's only Monday night doubleheader of the season. PVAMU went 1-1 this past weekend, defeating Alcorn State 62-52 and falling to Jackson State 67-48. The Panthers saw three players in double figures against Alcorn, paced by Kiarra Henderson's 14 points and 11 rebounds. PVAMU leads 24-10 in the all-time series against the Bulldogs, though AAMU has won three of the last four meetings, including two in Huntsville.
