Kelani Talakai and outside hitter Rayishon Jackson earned Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Weekly Volleyball Honors, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Talakai, the SWAC's Defensive Player of the Week, finished with 32 digs, averaging 5.33 digs per set, along with five service aces against Grambling State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. She posted a match-high 24 digs, three assists and two service aces in a sweep over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Jackman, the SWAC's Newcomer of the Week, registered 26 kills, hitting .333, while averaging 4.33 kills per set. She added 20 digs, two service aces and 2.0 total blocks as the Bulldogs begin conference play with a pair of victories. She posted 17 kills and seven digs in the three-set win over Grambling State.
Jackson State's Jayden James and Alabama State's Jyriah Morgan shared the SWAC's Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Karys Dove, of Jackson State, and Kamrynn Clay, of Alabama State, received Co-Setter of the Week accolades.
Alabama A&M (11-3 overall, 2-0 SWAC) return to action on Friday for its Pink Out Game against Bethune-Cookman. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. from T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.
