DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | The Alabama A&M University volleyball team return to the road on Friday, falling 3-1 to Bethune-Cookman in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) match at Richard V. Moore Gymnasium.
Bethune-Cookman won the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-20. Alabama A&M picked up a 25-18 win in the third set, but the Wildcats closed out the match in the fourth with a 25-xx victory.
Alabama A&M (15-9 overall, 6-5 SWAC) finished with 49 kills, 46 digs, 45 assists, 7.0 total team blocks and six service aces.
Nisaan Martinez led the AAMU offense with 11 kills, two block assists and one dig.
Nhya Morgan registered 11 kills, two block assists and a pair of digs, while
Rayishon Jackman posted 11 digs, eight kills, two block assists, one service ace and one assist.
Briana Smith and
Kaydee Smith dished out 25 and 15 assists, respectively, and
Kelani Talakai tallied 14 digs.
Bethune-Cookman (13-11, 10-2) finished with 55 kills, 56 digs, 53 assists, 12.0 total team blocks and four service aces.
Amya Jennings paced the Wildcats with a double-double of 17 kills and 10 digs, while Ariel Simmons added 13 kills and Tiyanna Preston registered 11 kills. Nola Hemphill and Melissa Gonzalez chipped in 22 and 21 assists, respectively. Defensively, Sthefany Carvalho led the way with a match-high 19 digs.
