HOUSTON, Texas | Trey Scott struck out seven in 4.1 innings, but the Alabama A&M University baseball team could not overcome a big deficit in falling, 10-6, to Prairie View A&M on Friday to open play at the HBCU Cactus Jack Classic at Daikin Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Prairie View A&M (1-0) struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Alabama A&M answered in the top of the second.
With one down in the frame,
Desmore Joseph singled to left and moved to third when
Kylan Duncan reached on an error.
Angel Rivera brought Joseph across on a sacrifice fly to left, tying the game at 1.
The Panthers broke the tie with two runs in the third, taking a 3-1 advantage.
AAMU got a run back in the fifth as
Dre Amaral brought in Rivera, who doubled to open the frame, as the Bulldogs closed the gap to 3-2.
But back came PVAMU, scoring three runs on four hits in the bottom of the inning, pushing the lead to 6-2.
The Panthers added one run in the seventh for a 7-2 lead, before AAMU added a pair of runs in the eighth.
Prairie View A&M tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the frame and held off a late rally attempt by Alabama A&M in the ninth to seal the win.
