Scott Fans Four in Season Opener versus PVAMU

HOUSTON, Texas | Trey Scott struck out seven in 4.1 innings, but the Alabama A&M University baseball team could not overcome a big deficit in falling, 10-6, to Prairie View A&M on Friday to open play at the HBCU Cactus Jack Classic at Daikin Park.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
Prairie View A&M (1-0) struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Alabama A&M answered in the top of the second.
 
With one down in the frame, Desmore Joseph singled to left and moved to third when Kylan Duncan reached on an error. Angel Rivera brought Joseph across on a sacrifice fly to left, tying the game at 1.
 
The Panthers broke the tie with two runs in the third, taking a 3-1 advantage.
 
AAMU got a run back in the fifth as Dre Amaral brought in Rivera, who doubled to open the frame, as the Bulldogs closed the gap to 3-2.
 
But back came PVAMU, scoring three runs on four hits in the bottom of the inning, pushing the lead to 6-2.
 
The Panthers added one run in the seventh for a 7-2 lead, before AAMU added a pair of runs in the eighth.
 
Prairie View A&M tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the frame and held off a late rally attempt by Alabama A&M in the ninth to seal the win.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Alabama A&M finished with six runs on five hits, committed one error and stranded three on base
  • Desmore Joseph went 3-for-5, with one RBI and one run scored
  • Brycen Hammonds scored a pair of runs
  • Angel Rivera went 1-for-1, with one run scored and one RBI
  • Trey Scott (0-1) took the loss, pitching 4.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits, fanned seven and walked three
  • Bryce Dolce and Raymond Clark saw action in relief
  • Landon Williams went 3-for-5, with five RBI and one run scored
  • Brayden Johnson went 3-for-5, with one run scored and one RBI
  • Landyn Grant (1-0) earned the win, surrendering two runs on four hits and struck out four in seven innings
  • Jeffrey Polledo, Demarques Thompson and Seve Medrano pitched in relief

Alabama A&M returns to action on Saturday in the HBCU Cactus Jack Classic against Jackson State. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. from Daikin Park.
