VERO BEACH, Fla. | Charles Morris collected two hits and drove in a pair as the Alabama A&M University baseball team could not overcome a late rally by Grambling State in falling, 7-4, on Saturday morning at Holman Stadium at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (2-4) got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning by loading the bases with one out.
Kylan Duncan opened the frame with a double down the line in left and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Trey Rutledge.
Wilmer Cuevas and
Angel Rivera drew back-to-back walks, loading the bases and
Charles Morris brought Duncan across on a sacrifice fly to center.
Isaac Castro followed and doubled to the gap in left, scoring Cuevas as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
Grambling State (3-3) answered with two runs in the top of the second and grab a run in the third for a 3-2 advantage.
Back came AAMU as Rutledge drew a walk to begin the bottom of the third. Cuevas followed with a single to center as Rutledge stopped at second. With one out, Morris delivered a base hit to center as Rutledge came across to score, tying the game at 3.
The Bulldogs broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth as Rutledge singled to begin the inning and stole second. He scored on a Rivera base hit to center, giving Alabama A&M a 4-3 lead.
However, the Tigers answered in the sixth, plating a run to tie the game and added one more in the seventh to grab a 5-4 advantage.
Grambling State exploded for a pair of runs in the eighth, stretching the lead to 7-4.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with four runs on 10 hits, committed two errors and left nine on base
- Charles Morris went 2-for-2, with a pair of RBI
- Trey Scott gave up three runs (two earned) on two hits, walked five and struck out three in 4.0 innings
- Raymond Clark and Bryce Dolce (1-1) saw action out of the bullpen
- Grambling State finished with seven runs on eight hits and stranded 12 on base
- Martvius Thomas and Chris Marcellus each collected two hits
- Mason Martinez went five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, with four walks and three strikeouts
- Ethan Bates (2-0) and Javier Martinez (save) pitched in relief

Alabama A&M concludes play at the 2025 Andre Dawson Classic on Sunday against Florida A&M. First pitch against the Rattlers is scheduled for 2 p.m. (central) from Holman Stadium at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex.
