BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University men's and women's track and field teams had two more school records fall on Sunday during the final day of the 2025 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Indoor Championships as the women finished fifth and the men placed eighth at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
In addition to the records,
Laila Gaynor celebrated her third win during the indoor season in the 400 meters, posting a time of 54.81. She also finished eighth in the 200m in 25.43.
The Bulldogs picked up where they left off on Saturday by setting a pair of school records.
Sanyae Gibson, who is school record holder in the 3000m, set the 5000m mark on Sunday, breaking
Aneisha Ingram's time of 19:58.00 set in 2023 by logging a time of 19:28.96 in placing sixth in the event.
On the men's side,
Juan Osorio, the record holder in the 3000m, also set a school-record time of 16:06.81 in the 5000m to claim eighth. Osorio's mark broke Hilary Kipchoge's record of 16:13.26, set in 2020.
In the women's standings, Alabama A&M finished fifth with 67.5 points, while Alabama State won the crown with 145 points. Prairie View A&M was second with 101 points, while Florida A&M (99) and Texas Southern (76.5) were third and fourth, respectively. Southern placed sixth with 44 points, followed by Arkansas-Pine Bluff (40), Bethune-Cookman (29), Jackson State (28), Alcorn State (17) and Grambling State (15) rounded out the 11-team field.
On the men's side, AAMU finished with 41 points to claim the eighth spot as Texas Southern held off Jackson State to win the championship with 100 points. JSU was second (93), followed by Arkansas-Pine Bluff (89), Alabama State (88.5), Bethune-Cookman (65), Florida A&M 65) and Prairie View A&M (48). Alcorn State placed ninth with 40 points, while Southern (23.5) and Grambling State (8) rounded out the field.
WOMEN'S TRACK
- In the 60m, Victoya Smith recorded a second-place finish, logging a time of 7.55
- The 4x400m relay team of Smith, Shelby Sanders, Kaylyn Johnson and Gaynor ran a season-best time of 3:48.35 to finish fourth
WOMEN'S FIELD
- Ajanae Cressey, the school's record holder in the high jump, placed fifth in the event, registering a leap of 1.57m

- Ezekiel Salama finished second in the weight throw, with a toss of 17.93m and teammate Patrick Adock placed 10th at 14.67m
- Andrew Reaves recorded 3,724 points in the heptathlon to finish ninth

Alabama A&M has closed out its indoor slate and will begin the outdoor schedule March 21-22 at the USF Alumni Invitational in Tampa, Fla.
