SAN ANTONIO| The Alabama A&M Softball team fell 5-2 and 8-0 to Incarnate Word in the first two games of a three-game series on Friday afternoon. of the doubleheader on Friday afternoon against the Cardinals.

In the first contest, the Bulldogs struggled offensively in the early innings but broke through in the fourth. Maria Paula Ocrospoma-Figueroa scored from third, and Tori Green came home on a UIW error by Bryanna Fuentes, putting AAMU on the board with two runs.

UIW closed out the first inning with two runs. Prisais Quintero's RBI brought in Victoria Altamirano, followed by Jasmine Sierra's RBI, which scored Quintero. AAMU was held scoreless in the first, with no runners left on base and three batters retired. Cardinals freshman pitcher Jenny Robleo kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard in the second, striking out Katie Puckett and Allyson Riches. UIW added to its lead in the bottom half, as Baylee Lemons scored on a Fuentes RBI to make it 3-0. The Bulldogs remained scoreless in the third, with Heaven Bibbs popping out to the catcher, Akyndra Montalvo grounding out to the pitcher, and Zahria Jones getting out at first.

UIW's Altamirano then homered to center, driving in Jillian Gutierrez for a 5-0 lead. AAMU prevented further damage, recording three outs while leaving one runner stranded. AAMU got on the board in the fourth inning as Ocrospoma-Figueroa scored from third, followed by Green crossing home on a UIW error by Fuentes. UIW was held scoreless for the first time in the game, going without a run in the inning. The Bulldogs held UIW scoreless over the next two innings, but AAMU was unable to generate any offense for the remainder of the game. The matchup concluded after the top of the seventh, with the Cardinals securing a 5-2 victory.

In game two, a first-inning surge gave the Cardinals an early 6-0 lead that the Bulldogs were never able to recover from. UIW added another run in both the third and fifth innings and the Bulldogs went scoreless through all five frames, solidifying Incarnate Word's 8-0 victory.

The Bulldogs look to end the series on a high note, as AAMU and UIW face off tomorrow at Noon before the Maroon and White travel 80 miles North to play three more games in the Longhorn Invitational.
