SAN ANTONIO | The Alabama A&M Bulldogs picked up a 3-2 win against the University of Incarnate Word before traveling 80 miles North to take on the University of South Florida. AAMU fell to USF 9-1 in their opening contest of the Longhorn Invitational.

In the opening frame of game one Ariana Montiel singled which allowed Maria Paula Ocrospoma-Figueroa to advance to second, and an error by the catcher allowed her to advance to third. Montiel stole second and another UIW error allowed Ocrospoma-Figueroa to score.

The contest ran stagnant until the top of the fifth when Destiny King, settled at second base, scored when Montiel singled to center field to go up 2-0. The Cardinals finally added one to the tally in the bottom of the frame when Victoria Altamirano was hit by the pitcher with bases loaded, allowing Bryanna Fuentes to score.

At the top of the seventh, Ocrospoma-Figueroa flied out to the right fielder, allowing Akyndra Montalvo to score. The Cardinals would not go down without a fight, as Jillian Gutierrez homered to left field to make the score 3-2, with AAMU claiming the final game of the series.

In game two, the Bulls jumped ahead in the second inning where they saw two singles from Camille Ortiz-Martinez, a walk, and a pair of doubles from Kathy Garcia-Soto and Alexa Galligani to take a 3-0 lead. With two on base, USF's Allana Consolazio clanked a triple to right field, sending both runners across home plate to give South Florida the 5-0 head start.

Attempting to prevent being shut out, the Bulldogs scored at the top of the fourth after Heaven Bibbs doubled to left field, giving King her second scoring play of the day. The tally would not be enough to thwart the Bulls, as they responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the same inning, and two more unearned runs at the bottom of the sixth to take the 9-1 victory.
