MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University women's basketball team prepares for the final three conference games as they travel to take on in-state rival Alabama State. The contest is set to start at Noon at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome, and fans can live stream the game via HBCU GO.
The Bulldogs (19-8, 12-3 SWAC) look to continue their four game winning streak after topping Arkansas Pine Bluff, Mississippi Valley State, and most recently, Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman. The contest over FAMU hit a historic mark, as it solidified the programs most victories during the Division I era.
The slim 70-67 win saw three Bulldogs finish in double digits, paced by Kalia Walker's 21 points, five of them from deep. Alisha Wilson added 16 points, including six of eight from the line. Darian Burgin also finished in double figures, adding 10 points and six rebounds. In the senior day double header victory over the Wildcats, Walker led the Maroon and White with 17 points and four assists, earning her SWAC Player of the Week for the second week in a row. Pendleton added 12 points and a team-high five rebounds in the contest, while Burgin followed closely, logging 10 points of her own.
The Hornets (6-21, 4-11 SWAC) look to get back in the winning column after dropping three of their last four contests. Kaitlyn Bryant paced the ASU offense in the losses against FAMU and B-CU, averaging 12 points. Cordasia Harris defensively, averaging 11 rebounds in the two games.
Last time out, the Bulldogs emerged victorious for the third consecutive year, as the Bulldogs defeated the Hornets 54-47. Lauryn Pendleton paced the Maroon and White with 17 points and two steals, while Walker added 13 points, going a perfect six of six from the foul line. Mailyn Wilkerson added nine points, all from triples. Alabama State saw 11 points from Bryant. Both Alanah Pooler and Harris contributed seven points, while Harris led the Hornet defense with eight rebounds.
