CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. | The Alabama A&M women's basketball team continues post season play in the Women's National Invitation Tournament as they prepare to take on the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Mocs on Saturday, March 22 at 4 p.m. CT in the McKenzie Arena.
The Maroon and White (21-10, 14-4 SWAC) will participate in the WNIT for the first time during the programs' Division I era. The Bulldogs earned their first 20+ win season during the D1 era as well this season. The Bulldogs hope to get back into the winning column after falling to Alcorn State in a SWAC tournament Quarterfinal thriller, with the Braves taking a slim 56-53 edge in the final moments.
The Mocs finished their 2024-25 campaign with a 16-14 overall record, and ended up at the Southern Conference's second-place finisher in the regular season before falling 64-57 in an extra period to UNC Greensboro in the SoCon Tournament Championship game. The Mocs participate in the WNIT for the seventh time in its programs' tenure, most recently in 2018, though they would have received a bid in the 2020 season, had it not been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Bulldogs and Mocs  have met just twice before, splitting a pair over ten years ago, picking up a win in 2007 at home before falling in 2008 in Chattanooga. Both Coach Thornton and Coach Schirmer are in their first year at the helm of their respective programs. Saturday's clash can be live streamed via ESPN+.
