MONTGOMERY, Ala. | In their opening match of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tennis Pod II, the Alabama A&M women's team fell 4-2 to the Florida A&M Rattlers.
In the doubles session, the Rattlers claimed court six in a 6-3 decision before the Bulldog duo of Gabrielle Henderson and Sofia Sotelo Raya claimed a 7-5 victory at second doubles, defeating FAMU's Reagan Harris and Larissa Silva. With the dual point coming down to the opening court, the duo of Sara Rakim and Genesis Whitelock grabbed the point, winning 7-5 against Yana Dhamija and Alicia Owegi.
The Rattlers continued the momentum, picking up wins at court six and four. The Bulldogs finally saw a tally in the win column when Valentine Abide Talaki claimed a 6-3, 6-0 victory on court three. Alicia Owegi followed suit, picking up a 6-2, 6-4 win over FAMU's Veronica Rodriguez at court two. Sara Rakim won court one to solidify the 4-2 in favor of the Rattlers. Though her court went unfinished, Sotelo Raya won the first set 6-1 on court five.
