HOUSTON, Texas | The Alabama A&M University baseball team closed out its three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series on Sunday with a 23-8 loss to Texas Southern at MacGregor Park.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning, Alabama A&M struck for a pair of runs in the top of the second inning to grab a 2-0 lead.
Desmore Joseph opened the inning with a single to right and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Isaac Castro. With two down,
Angel Rivera was hit by a pitch and
Miles Jackson walked to load the bases.
Trey Rutledge drew a base on balls, scoring Joseph and
AJ Anderson was hit by a pitch as Rivera came across.
However, Texas Southern plated eight runs on three hits and took advantage of one AAMU error in the bottom of the frame, grabbing an 8-2 lead.
The Bulldogs (8-19 overall, 2-7 SWAC) plated one run in the third, but the Tigers (12-17, 7-2) added seven runs in the third and six in the fourth to extend their advantage to 21-3.
Both teams scored on run in the fifth and the Bulldogs plated three runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh, before falling 23-8.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with eight runs on 11 hits, committed two errors and left nine on base
- Kylan Duncan went 2-for-4, with one run scored and one RBI
- Elvis Victoriano was 2-for-3, with one run driven in
- AJ Anderson drove in two and scored once
- Killian McLaughlin (1-1) took the loss, surrendering 15 runs (12 earned) on nine hits, walking seven and striking out one in three innings
- Kenny Glover and Elvis Victoriano pitched in relief
- Texas Southern finished with 23 runs on 13 hits, had one error and stranded 12 on base
- Justin Mayes (1-4) picked up the win, pitching two innings and giving up two runs on two hits, with three strikeouts and a pair of walks
- James Malone, Collin Dennis and Joshua Prieto worked in relief
