THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University baseball team rallied from seven runs down to force extra innings, before falling 15-12 in 11 innings to Alcorn State during Game 2 of a three-game series against the Braves on Saturday afternoon at the Bulldog Baseball Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alcorn State (1-10) plated two runs in the first and third innings, while Alabama A&M (3-11) scored two in the first and one in the second and third innings as the game was tied at 4 through the first three innings.
Both teams scored in the fifth before the Braves exploded for four runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth for a 12-5 lead.
That is when the Bulldogs dug in and rallied from the seven-run deficit.
Charles Morris begin the bottom of the eighth with a walk and advanced to second when
Miles Jackson reached on an error.
Christian Soto followed with a double to left center as Morris and Jackson scored. After a pitching change,
Isaac Castro doubled to right as Soto scored. Still with no outs,
Dre Amaral singled up the middle as Castro came around to score. Amaral came in to score the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right by
Desmore Joseph as Alabama A&M closed the gap to 12-10.
AAMU forced extra innings with a pair of runs in the ninth.
Jackson began the frame by reaching on an error and stole second. With two down, Amaral brought Jackson across with a base hit up the middle. Amaral moved to second on a balk, third on a passed by and scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
However, Alcorn State scored three runs on one hit and took advantage of a Bulldog error in the top of the 11
th to grab a 15-12 advantage.
The Bulldogs put two on base in the bottom of the inning but couldn't get a timely hit as Alcorn State picked up its first win of the season.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with 12 runs on 11 hits, committed five errors and left 12 on base
- Charles Morris went 3-for-5, with one run scored and one RBI
- Angel Rivera went 1-for-3 (solo homer), with three runs scored and one RBI
- Kylan Duncan and Dre Amaral each collected two hits
- Trey Scott started and gave up nine runs (four earned) on six hits, walking five and striking out five in 5.2 innings
- Charlie Lazo, Nick Espinola and Bryce Dolce (0-1) pitched in relief
- Alcorn State finished with 15 runs on 12 hits, had five errors and stranded 11 on base
- Jermel Ford went 2-for-5, with four RBI and two runs scored
- Ben Martin was 2-for-5, with three runs scored and two RBI
- Nathan Gamez also collected two hits and drove in a pair
- Luke Sanders got the start and surrendered eight runs (five earned) on six hits, with three strikeouts and three walks in seven innings
- Guershon Exi, Stephen Hunt, Hayden Konkler and Hunter Bell worked in relief

Alabama A&M and Alcorn State return for the rubber game of the series on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. from the Bulldog Baseball Field.
