Riches and Ocrospoma Homer in Conference Series Sweep

THE HILL | In the final two games of Alabama A&M's first home conference series, the Bulldog softball team flew past Mississippi Valley State 10-0 and 10-2 in Saturday's doubleheader.

In the morning contest, the Maroon and White saw a six run first inning, capitalized by a stolen base and double to the left center. At the bottom of the second, Allyson Riches homered, bringing around Ariana Montiel in the process to go two more runs to the Bulldog tally. At the top of the third, two Delta Devils stuck out looking. At the bottom of the frame, Tori Green doubled to right field and Ariana Montiel tripled in the same manner which brought Green across home plate before Montiel added the 10th run of the game. The contest ran stagnant for the remaining two innings, but it did not matter, and AAMU shutout Mississippi Valley by way of run rule. AAMU recorded 10 runs on 10 hits with no errors, while Mississippi Valley saw no runs, just one hit and one error in the contest.

In the afternoon duel, MVSU recorded two hits in the opening inning. Maria Paula Ocraspoma walked, then stole second before earning a run after Green singled to left field. Riches followed suit, which brought Green across home plate and gave AAMU a slime 2-0 lead. The Devilettes were not able to get anything going at the top of the third, giving AAMU a chance to balloon their control.

At the bottom of the second, Toni Purchas walked before stealing second. Maria Paula Ocrospoma-Figueroa came up to bat and sent the ball flying over the wall and recorded two RBI's. For the second time in one day, Green stole second base, but upped the ante this time, stealing third as well. Montiel singled and allowed Green to score. Katie Puckett singled next, and Montiel scored on a passed ball.

At the top of the third, the Devilettes prevented another shutout and earned a run. The Bulldogs responded shortly thereafter. Akyndra Montalvo was hit by the pitcher before advancing around the bases and eventually scoring. Both Heaven Bibbs and Dakota Daniel scored in the inning to lunge AAMU forward, 9-1. AAMU managed to get three Delta Devils out in consecutive at bats. Puckett singled and advanced to the following bases at the bottom of the fourth to break double digits.

MVSU wouldn't go down without a fight, as Taylor Fuller doubled to left field before advancing to third on a passed ball. India Ivy singled to bring Fuller across home plate before Hailey Akers struck out swinging to solidify the Bulldogs sweep over the Delta Devils.
