JACKSON, Miss. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team dropped the second game of its three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series on Friday to Jackson State, 14-4 in eight innings, at Braddy Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama A&M (9-28 overall, 2-15 SWAC) jumped out to an early lead in the top half of the first inning.
Trey Rutledge opened the game and was hit by a pitch. With one out he stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch, giving the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead.
Jackson State (19-17, 7-10) used a six-run third inning, highlighted by a bases-loaded double by Ledy Alverez, to grab a 6-1 advantage.
The Bulldogs closed the gap to 6-3in the fifth.
With one out, Rutledge walked and advanced to second after a
Kylan Duncan base hit through the left side.
Miles Jackson followed with a double to left center, scoring Rutledge and Duncan.
Alabama A&M loaded the bases in the top of the eighth, but came away with one run, cutting the deficit to 6-4.
However, the Tigers responded in the bottom of the frame with eight runs to defeat the Bulldogs, 14-4.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama A&M finished with four runs on seven hits, committed one error and stranded 10 on base
- Miles Jackson went 2-for-3, with a pair of RBI
- Kenny Glover was 2-for-4
- Trey Rutledge scored a pair of runs and stole two bases
- Jordan Nolley (1-2) started for the Bulldogs and gave up six runs on eight hits, with three walks and two strikeouts in 3.0 innings to take the loss
- Edgar Rodriguez, Killian McLaughlin, Bryce Dolce, Raymond Clark, Kobe Stokes and Elvis Victoriano pitched in relief
- Jackson State finished with 14 runs on 15 hits, had a pair of errors and left 14 on base
- Jordan McCladdie went 4-for-5, with two RBI and two runs scored
- Arjun Huerta was 3-for-4, with three runs driven in and two runs scored
- Brandon Haston (2-6) picked up the win, giving up three runs on six hits, with eight strikeouts and three walks in 5.1 innings.
- Nkosi Didder and Stevins Spurgeon worked in relief
