JACKSON, Miss. | Charles Morris belted a solo homer in the top of the eighth inning, tying the game at 7, but the Alabama A&M University baseball team could not close out its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series with Jackson State, falling 11-8, on Saturday afternoon at Braddy Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jackson State (20-17 overall, 8-10 SWAC) took advantage of a Bulldog error in the bottom of the first inning to grab an early 1-0 lead.
The Tigers extended the advantage to 5-0 in the second, highlighted by a two-run homer by Davione Hull.
Alabama A&M (9-29, 2-16) got into the scoring column with two runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning, cutting the margin to 5-2.
With one out in the frame,
KJ Stanfield singled to left and advanced a base when
Dre Amaral singled through the left side.
AJ Anderson record on a fielder's choice to load the bases and
Charles Morris singled to right center, scoring Stanfield from third.
Elvis Victoriano followed and plated Amaral with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Bulldogs grabbed their first lead of the day, scoring four runs on three hits and took advantage of an error in the top of the sixth.
Amaral opened the inning with a single to left center and advanced to third on Anderson's single to right. Morris reached on an error as Amaral and Anderson scored. After a pitching change, Victoriano singled to center, and
Kenny Glover was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Rutledge tied the game at 5 with a sacrifice fly to center and Duncan grounded out to the shortstop as Victoriano scored, giving AAMU a 6-5 advantage.
However, Jackson State answered in the bottom of the frame as the Tigers loaded the bases and came away with two runs, taking a 7-6 lead.
Alabama A&M tied the game at 7 in the eighth when Morris opened the frame with a solo homer to right.
But back came JSU in the bottom of the inning as Tyshon Patty belted a solo homer to left to break the 7-7 tie and the Tigers scored three more runs to grab an 11-7 lead.
The Bulldogs tried to rally in the ninth as Joseph Desmore reached on a one-out walk and advanced to third when Amaral singed up the middle. Anderson followed with an RBI single through the right side, as Desmore scored. Morris struck out for the second out and Victoriano flied out to center as Jackson State completed the sweep, defeating AAMU 11-8.

- Tyshon Patty went 3-for-3, with three runs scored and one RBI
- Eric Elliott started for Jackson State, giving up five runs (two earned) on nine hits, fanning three and walking one in five innings
- Shemar Harris, Nkosi Didder (2-3) and Stevins Spurgeon (third save) pitched in relief
