Bulldogs Fall in Series Opener to Rattlers

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team opened a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series on Friday at Florida A&M as the Rattlers jumped out to an early lead and didn't look back in a 17-2 victory in seven innings over the Bulldogs at Moore-Kittles Field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
Florida A&M (22-20 overall, 16-6 SWAC) jumped out to a 5-0 lead with five runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning.
 
The Rattlers exploded for eight runs, highlighted by a grand slam by Josue Figueroa, in the third to stretch the advantage to 13-0.
 
FAMU added two more runs in the fourth, extending the lead to 15-0.
 
Alabama A&M (10-33, 2-20) got a solo homer by Charles Morris and Angel Rivera, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored in the top of the sixth as the Bulldogs trimmed the deficit to 15-2.
 
However, Florida A&M added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to push the advantage to 17-2.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Alabama A&M finished with two runs on seven hits, had one error and stranded five on base
  • Miles Jackson went 2-for-3
  • Charles Morris was 2-for-3, with one run scored and one RBI
  • Nick Espinola (0-8) took the loss, surrendering 13 runs on eight hits, with three walks and two strikeouts in three innings
  • Killian McLaughlin worked the final three innings in relief
  • Florida A&M finished with 17 runs on 14 hits, committed two errors and left four on base
  • Justen Crews went 4-for-5, with four RBI and three runs scored
  • Ethan Miller went 2-for-4, with one run scored and one RBI
  • Justin Lopez was 2-for-4, with four RBI and one run scored
