NASHVILLE, Tenn. | Justin Walker led from start to finish to win the long jump, wrapping up the opening day of the Music City Challenge on Friday at the Vanderbilt Track & Field Facility.
Walker, the school's record holder in the event, registered a mark of 7.24m during the first round and topped it with a jump of 7.30m in the third round. He added to his lead with the fifth jump, posting a winning mark of 7.43m.
In addition to Walker's big day,
Eric Barker also had a huge day as he advanced to Saturday's finals of the 110m hurdles.
Barker ran the third-fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles to qualify for Saturday's final round. He recorded a time of 14.42 as Central Arkansas held the top two spots and the fourth spot in the preliminary round. UCA's Xavier Simpson and Jeremiah Boudreux registered times of 14.22 and 14.23.
WOMEN'S TRACK
- Sanyae Gibson and Norma Rodriguez registered personal bests in the 3000m by placing 10th and 11th, logging times of 10:49.90 and 10:51.80, respectively
WOMEN'S FIELD
- Leah Brown finished seventh in the discus, with a toss of 40.69m
- In the long jump, Amber Jamison placed ninth, with a leap of 5.36m
MEN'S TRACK
- Juan Osorio placed 11th and posted a personal best in the 3000m, registering a time of 9:10.33
