BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University freshman midfielder/forward
Danija Walker was selected the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Soccer Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Walker played 63 minutes in a road loss to Middle Tennessee State to open the week but played a huge role in 37 minutes of action in a 1-0 victory over Howard on Sunday. She netted the lone goal that gave the Bulldogs the upset win over the Bison.
Grambling State's Alana Aiken was tabbed the SWAC Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate Carlana Pou shared the Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors with Jackson State's Sarah Portis. JSU's Valentina Goodloe earned the Goalkeeper of the Week accolade.
Alabama A&M returns to action for a pair of games this weekend, starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday against Southern Illinois at the Bulldogs Soccer Field. AAMU closes out the weekend at 3 p.m. on Sunday against Jacksonville State.
