THE HILL | Fatima Ramirez posted 20 kills as the Alabama A&M University volleyball team concluded its homestand with a 3-1 victory over West Georgia on Tuesday night at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.
Alabama A&M started slow against West Georgia, but pulled past to take the opening set, 25-16. The Wolves responded in the second set, tying the match at 1 after a 25-22 win. Back came the Bulldogs in the third, rolling to a 25-17 victory and closed out the match in the fourth set, 25-23.
Alabama A&M (5-1) finished with 56 kills, 55 assists, 54 digs, 9.0 total team blocks and seven service aces.
Ramirez hit .326, with six digs, while
Nisaan Martinez added 10 kills, three block assists and three service aces.
Briana Smith tallied 26 assists and
Kaydee Smith added 22. Defensively,
Rayishon Jackman, who had seven kills, recorded a match-high 20 digs, while
Kelani Talakai registered 14.
West Georgia (0-7) finished with 54 kills, 54 digs, 51 assists, six service aces and 5.0 total team blocks.
Valree Schmus paced the Wolves with 13 kills and nine digs, while Grace-Blythe Cornett and Sanai Young tallied 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Addy Franz dished out 24 assists and Desha Van Veldhuizen chipped in 19. Defensively, Olivia Kremer posted 15 digs and Van Veldhuizen wrapped up her double-double performance with 11 digs.
