BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University outside hitter/right-side hitter
Fatima Ramirez was selected the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Ramirez, who also earned Co-Most Valuable Player honors at the Southland/SWAC Challenge, helped the Bulldogs to a 3-1 record last week. She finished with 57 kills (3.80 kills per set) and 33 digs (2.20 digs per set). Against West Georgia, she posted 20 kills and hit .326 in the four-set victory. In addition, she recorded double-doubles in kills and digs against Nicholls State and New Orleans.
Bethune-Cookman's Sthefany Carvalho earned the SWAC's Defensive Player of the Week honor, while Grambling State's Alayna Howard was tabbed the Setter of the Week. Kaleigh Williams, of Bethune-Cookman, and Florida A&M's LaDonna Trantham shared the SWAC's Co-Newcomer of the Week award.
Alabama A&M (7-2) returns to action on Wednesday with a trip to Nashville, Tenn. to face Tennessee State. First Serve is set for 6 p.m. from Kean Hall.
