Gaynor, Keith Pick up Wins at Vulcan Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Laila Gaynor and Joe Quez Keith picked up victories as the Alabama A&M University men's and women's track & field teams opening its season on Saturday at the Vulcan Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex.
 
Gaynor ran the ninth-fastest HBCU time in the 200m, winning the event, with a time of 24.58. She also competed in the 60m, running a time of 7.74 to claim fifth.
 
Keith won the men's 400-meter men's race with a personal-best time of 48.16, which was the 13th-best HBCU time.
 
In the women's 800m, Briana Samuels just missed the top spot, placing second with a time of 2:17.66 and in the triple jump, Amber Jamison logged a toss of 11.33m to place third in the event.
 
In the men's triple jump, Joshua Graham posted a mark of 14.94m to finish second, which ranked seventh among HBCUs.
 
WOMEN'S TRACK
  • Kennedy Hill placed ninth in the 400m, posting a time of 1:00.82
  • In the 800m, Minka Isom finished seventh by logging a time of 2:26.71
  • Laura Avila and Sanyae Gibson finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 3000m at 10:36.49 and 11:01.96
  • The 10:36.49 set by Avila was a school record 
 
WOMEN'S FIELD
  • Leah Brown finished eighth in the weight throw, with a personal-best mark of 12.79m
 
MEN'S TRACK
  • Kayden Washington logged a time of 7.09 in the 60m prelims to qualify for the finals
  • In the finals of the 60m, Washington ran a personal-best time of 7.03 to claim sixth
  • Kody Pugh finished sixth in the 400m, registering a time of 49.61
  • Sherman Lattimore posted a time of 22.36 to place eighth in the 200m
 
MEN'S FIELD
  • Cameron Andrews placed second in the long jump, posting a mark of 6.88m, while teammate Olivier Jean was sixth at 6.70m
  • Andre Jones recorded a mark of 13.84m in the triple jump to finish fifth
  • In the pole vault, Corey Harris placed fourth at 4.00m
