BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University women's basketball guards
Kalia Walker and
Coriah Beck received Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) weekly basketball honors, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Walker, the SWAC's Player of the Week, helped Alabama A&M to a perfect 2-0 mark this week as the Bulldogs have now won six straight. She averaged 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals in victories over Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern. She shot 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the floor in the two games. Against Texas Southern, Walker went 5-of-10 from the field and 8-of-10 from the foul line to finish with a team-high 19 points and five rebounds.
Beck, who earned SWAC Impact Player of the Week honors, averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 boards and 1.5 steals and shot 42.3 percent (11-of-26) from the floor. Against Prairie View A&M, Beck shot 6-of-12 from the field to register 15 points, four boards, three steals and two blocks.
Alabama State's Clearia Peterson was selected the SWAC Newcomer of the Week.
Alabama A&M returns to action on Thursday when the Bulldogs play host to Florida A&M. Tip-off against the Rattlers is scheduled for 6 p.m. from the AAMU Event Center and streamed on SWAC TV.
