Bulldogs Set to Host JSU and Alcorn State

THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University women's basketball team is set for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) home opener as the Bulldogs will play host to Jackson State on Thursday and Alcorn State on Saturday. 
 
Tip-off for Thursday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday from the AAMU Event Center as both games are streamed on SWAC TV.
 
Alabama A&M enters the contest off a 72-49 victory last Saturday at Arkansas-Pine Bluff as the Bulldogs had three players in double figures.
 
Jackson State is searching for its first victory in SWAC play as the Tigers have lost their last six games, including a 49-45 defeat to begin league play at home versus Alcorn State.  JSU is 1-7 away from home this season.
 
Alcorn State will visit Alabama State on Thursday before traveling to Huntsville. The Braves opened conference play with a win over Jackson State, which ended a three-game losing streak. Alcorn State is 1-5 away from Lorman, Miss. this season.
 
Bulldogs at a Glance
Alabama A&M is averaging just over 60 points per game and shooting 38.7 percent from the floor.
 
Kalia Walker is registering 12.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals, while Moses Davenport is right behind her at 10.2 points and 5.3 boards per game. Jaida Belton, the SWAC's Impact Player of the Week, is averaging 6.9 boards per contest.
 
The Bulldogs ranked tops in the conference in numerous categories, including free-throw attempts per game (45th nationally), free-throws made per game (55th nationally), scoring defense and scoring margin.
 
Scouting Jackson State
The Tigers are shooting just over 36 percent from the floor and averaging 61.1 points per game.
 
Rhema Pegues paces the JSU offense at 11.0 points, 3.5 boards and 1.0 assists, while Leianya Massenat is posting 10.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest. Mikayla Brown leads the defense, averaging 8.3 boards.
 
Jackson State leads the conference in assist/turnover ratio, rebound margin, three-pointers per game and Mikayla Brown is first in rebounds per game.
 
Scouting Alcorn State
The Braves are averaging 53.9 points and shooting 36.4 from the floor, as Nakia Cheathman leads the way offensively at 13.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.6 assists.
 
Alcorn State is ranked tops in the conference in fouls per game and three-point percentage (51st nationally), while Cheatham is the league leader in field goal percentage, steals and steals per game.
 
Jackson State Series History
This will be the 38th meeting between the two programs as Jackson State leads the all-time series, 26-11.
 
The Tigers have won six straight in the series and eight out of their last nine games against the Bulldogs. The last Alabama A&M win came on March 7, 2020 – a 75-71 victory in Huntsville, Ala.
 
Alcorn State Series History
This will be 40th meeting between the two programs as Alabama A&M holds the slim, 20-19, lead in the series.
 
The Bulldogs have won three out of the last four games, with the lone loss coming in the 2025 SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament, a 56-53 Alcorn State victory.
