Trey Rutledge has reported to spring training as the he signed a contract on Wednesday with the New York Mets.
Rutledge, who reported to the Mets spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, Fla., earned numerous postseason honors last season, including Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Postseason Second Team and Black College Nines Large School Division Elite Second Team honors and invited to the HBCU Swingman Classic.
Last season for the Maroon & White, Rutledge ranked tops in the country in on-base percentage (.573) and fifth in stolen bases per game. He led the Bulldogs in batting, with a .397 average. He registered 40 hits, including seven doubles, three triples and one home run. The Irondale, Ala. native was 34-of-37 in stolen bases, drawing 37 walks and scored 56 times.
