BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University redshirt junior pitcher
Anthony Mateo was selected the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Co-Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday.
In his second outing of the season, Mateo worked seven innings, surrendering one run on five hits, fanned one and walked one to earn the victory against ULM. In the two outings this season, Mateo (1-0) is sporting a 2.19 ERA in 12.1 innings pitched, fanning three and walking five.
Mateo shared the honor with Bethune-Cookman's Edwin Sanchez, while Andrey Martinez, of BCU, was selected the SWAC Hitter of the Week. Alabama State's Jackson Williams was tabbed the SWAC Newcomer of the Week.
Alabama A&M returns to action in the Holiday Inn Classic on Friday against Notre Dame. First pitch against the Irish is set for 11 a.m. from Quillen Field at Bush Stadium at the Averitt Express Baseball Complex in Cookeville, Tenn.
