THE HILL | The Alabama A&M softball team dropped game one of its SWAC doubleheader to Jackson State, 11-1, on Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Field, while game two was suspended and will resume at Jackson State in the top of the ninth inning.
Jackson State jumped out to an early lead, plating seven runs in the opening inning behind a series of timely hits, including a two-RBI triple and a two-run double. The Tigers added another run in the second to extend the advantage.
Alabama A&M responded in the bottom of the second inning when Ariana Montiel delivered a sacrifice fly, allowing Josefina Lacalle to score and put the Bulldogs on the board.
Jackson State continued to add insurance runs, scoring three in the fourth inning to push the lead to 11-1. The Bulldogs generated scoring opportunities throughout the game, recording five hits, including singles from Destiny King, Rayven Ramos, Lily Calderon, and Josefina Lacalle, but were unable to mount a late rally.
In the circle, Josefina Lacalle provided relief for the Bulldogs, tossing five innings while recording three strikeouts. Kara Burman was charged with the loss after Jackson State's early offensive surge.
Game two of the doubleheader was halted due to darkness and will resume at Jackson State with the Bulldogs batting in the top of the ninth inning.

The Bulldogs will be on the road to face Mississippi Valley in a doubleheader in Itta Bena, MS on Saturday, March 20th. First pitch is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
