JACKSON, MS | Alabama A&M dropped a 6-0 decision to Jackson State on Friday evening at JSU Softball Field, while also completing a previously suspended contest from March 14 earlier in the day.
In Friday's series opener, the Bulldogs were limited offensively, recording just three hits against Jackson State. Grace Cruthis, Kali Austerman, and Destiny King each collected a hit, with Austerman adding a double for Alabama A&M's lone extra-base hit.
Jackson State set the tone early with a solo home run in the first inning before adding two runs in the second on a two-RBI double. The Tigers extended their lead with a two-run fourth inning and pushed across one more run in the sixth to seal the 6-0 result.
Kaylee Tatum went the distance in the circle for the Bulldogs, allowing six runs on 10 hits while striking out one.
Earlier in the day, Alabama A&M resumed and completed a suspended game originally started on March 14 on the Hill, ultimately falling 10-8 in a back-and-forth battle.
The Bulldogs showcased a strong offensive performance in the resumed contest, finishing with 14 hits and eight runs. Alabama A&M used a four-run third inning to take its first lead of the game, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Mariah Solorio and an RBI double from Ariana Montiel.
Montiel finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Solorio led the team with four RBIs on two hits. Kali Austerman added two hits and scored twice, and Destiny King contributed two hits and crossed the plate two times.
Alabama A&M continued to respond throughout the game, adding single runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. Jaliyah Grigsby delivered a clutch RBI double in the seventh to tie the game at 8-8.
Jackson State regained the lead late and added insurance runs in the final frame to secure the 10-8 win as the resumed game came to a close.
