THE HILL | Alabama A&M women's tennis delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Cumberland 6-1 on Bulldog home courts.
The Bulldogs improved to 5-8 on the season with a strong showing across both doubles and singles play.
Alabama A&M secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Alicia Owegi and Nardine Salem led the way with a (6-2) victory at No. 1 doubles, while Tstitsi Mahere and Melissa Mwakha followed with a (6-2) win at No. 3 to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 advantage.Â
In singles action, Alabama A&M controlled the match, winning five of six courts. Owegi set the tone at No. 1 singles with a (6-1, 7-6) victory, while Sofia Sotelo Raya added a straight-set win at No. 3 (6-1, 6-4). Melissa Mwakha continued the momentum with a (6-3, 6-0) win at No. 4, and Tstitsi Mahere secured a (6-0, 7-5) victory at No. 5. Nardine Salem rounded out the effort with a dominant (6-0, 6-0) win at No. 6 singles.Â
