THE HILL | Alabama A&M women's tennis secured a 4-3 victory over Alabama State on Saturday, using a strong showing in singles play to clinch the match at home.
Alabama A&M was trailing early after Alabama State claimed the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The Bulldogs' lone doubles victory came from the duo of Tstitsi Mahere and Melissa Mwakha at the No. 3 position.
The Bulldogs responded in singles with a dominant and resilient effort, capturing four of the six courts to secure the overall win. Alicia Owegi set the tone with a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, while Gabrielle Henderson followed with a strong win at No. 2. Sofia Sotelo Raya added another point with a decisive performance at No. 3 singles.
Alabama A&M sealed the match at No. 6 singles, where Nardine Salem delivered a convincing straight-set victory to clinch the 4-3 win for the Bulldogs.
Despite wins from Alabama State at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, the Bulldogs' depth and composure in key moments proved to be the difference.
