Alabama A&M Drops Second Game against Grambling State

GRAMBLING, La. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team fell behind early and could not recover in a 19-4 loss in seven innings to Grambling State in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Saturday from Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park.

Alabama A&M (7-19 overall, 2-3 SWAC) struck first in the top of the opening inning, capitalizing on early pressure as AJ Anderson came around to score on a wild pitch to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage.

Grambling State (7-14, 4-1) quickly responded in the bottom half of the frame, plating four runs behind a pair of two-run doubles from Cameron Hill and Charles Ashe III to take a 4-1 lead. The Tigers continued to build momentum in the second inning as Hill launched a two-run homer to extend the advantage to 6-1.

After Grambling State added a run in the third, Alabama A&M trimmed the deficit in the fourth inning.

Zamar Lewis scored on a bases-loaded walk by Miles Jackson to make it 7-2.

However, Grambling State answered with a five-run fourth inning, taking advantage of walks, hit batters, and a Bulldog error to push the lead to 12-2. The Tigers added single runs in the fifth and exploded for six more in the sixth inning, highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Julio Vasquez and Shannon Martin.

Alabama A&M showed late fight in the seventh inning as KJ Stanfield delivered an RBI double to score Zak Rice, but the deficit proved too much to overcome.

Alabama A&M finished with eight hits, led by AJ Anderson's 2-for-4 performance. Miles Jackson added an RBI, while KJ Stanfield recorded a pinch-hit RBI double. The Bulldogs drew six walks but left 11 runners on base.

On the mound, Edyn Barber was charged with the loss after allowing four runs in the opening inning. Alabama A&M utilized six pitchers in the contest.
