Alabama A&M Drops Series Finale to Grambling State

GRAMBLING, La. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team dropped a 13-3 decision to Grambling on Sunday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action at Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park.

Alabama A&M (7-20 overall, 2-4 SWAC) struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on early pressure. After drawing a walk and advancing into scoring position, the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly from Tervell Johnson.

Grambling State (8-14, 5-1) responded immediately in the bottom half, plating three runs despite not recording a hit in the inning, taking advantage of walks and a Bulldog error to move in front 3-1.

The Tigers broke the game open in the middle innings, highlighted by a three-run home run from James Woody in the third inning and back-to-back long balls from Cameron Hill and Aidan Lopez in the fourth to extend the lead to 10-1.

Alabama A&M answered in the fifth inning as Chris Walker delivered a two-run home run to left field, scoring Miles Jackson and trimming the deficit to 10-3. Walker finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored, leading the Bulldogs offensively.

However, Grambling State added three more runs in the sixth inning, using timely hitting to push the margin to 13-3 and secure the series finale.

Brycen Hammonds recorded a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-2 at the plate, while Jackson and Keondre Fields also added hits for Alabama A&M.

On the mound, Brady Baxter took the loss after allowing nine runs (eight earned) in 3.1 innings, while Avery Seaton and Nick Espinola combined for three scoreless relief innings.

Grambling State was paced by Woody, who drove in five runs, while Hill added three RBIs and Lopez chipped in two in a balanced offensive effort.
