THE HILL | The Alabama A&M softball team dropped a conference matchup to Alabama State, 22-2, on Friday afternoon at Bulldog Field.
Alabama A&M 16-17 overall plated two runs in the third inning, but Alabama State 11-24 overall, used a pair of big innings to pull away and secure the win.Â
After a scoreless opening frame, Alabama State broke the game open in the second inning, scoring five runs before adding a 10-run third inning to build a commanding lead. The Hornets continued their offensive surge with seven more runs in the fourth.
The Bulldogs found a spark in the bottom of the third inning as Grace Cruthis reached base to start the rally, followed by a double from Kali Austerman to put runners in scoring position. Josefina Lacalle delivered at the plate with a two-RBI single to bring home both runs for Alabama A&M.Â
Despite the effort, Alabama A&M was limited to four hits on the day, with Austerman leading the way with two hits, including a double.Â

The Bulldogs will be back on the Hill to host a doubleheader against Alabama State on Saturday, March 28th. First pitch is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.Â
