ITTA BENA, Miss. | The Alabama A&M University baseball team could not overcome a three-run seventh inning as the Bulldogs dropped the second game of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series to Mississippi Valley State, 2-1, at Magnolia Field on Saturday.
Alabama A&M (7-22 overall, 2-6 SWAC) picked up a run in the top of the second inning as
Devante Wells drew a two-out walk and came across to score on a
Keilon Parnell base hit to right, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
However, Mississippi Valley State (6-17, 2-6) answered in the bottom of the frame with one run, tying the game at 1.
The Delta Devils broke the tie in the third by taking advantage of a pair of errors to grab a 3-1 lead.
Alabama A&M loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth, but reliever James Snipes struck out
Miles Jackson to end the scoring threat.
However, the Bulldogs pulled within a run in the top of the seventh inning.
Zak Rice began the frame with a single to left and advanced to second on a ground out by
Colin Mason. Wells followed with a double to left to plate Rice as Alabama A&M cut the deficit to 3-2.
Mississippi Valley State responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on three hits and took advantage of one AAMU error to extend the lead to 6-2.
Evan Hurlburt (0-2) took the loss as he surrendered three runs on seven hits, with a pair of strikeouts in four innings.
