THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University baseball team began a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series on Friday with a 10-0 loss in eight innings to rival Alabama State at the Bulldog Baseball Field.

After a scoreless first inning, Alabama State (16-16 overall, 6-7 SWAC) took advantage of an error in the top of the second inning to grab a 3-0 lead.

The Hornets added a run in the third and two more in the fifth to stretch the advantage to 6-0.

Alabama A&M (8-28, 2-11) picked up its first hit in the bottom of the fifth as
Brycen Hammonds doubled down the line in left, but an inning-ending double play halted the Bulldog rally.

The Hornets plated two runs in the top half of the sixth and tacked on two more in the eighth for the 10-0 lead.
Â
Anthony Mateo (2-3) took the loss, surrendering six runs (five earned) on five hits, with four strikeouts and four walks in 4.1 innings.
Avery Seaton,
Bryce Dolce and
Raymond Clark worked out of the bullpen.

Camden Matthews (2-0) picked up the win, scattering two hits, fanning two and walking two in 6.1 innings. James Peterson pitched the final 2.2 innings in relief.
