THE HILL | Alabama A&M softball delivered a complete performance on Saturday, sweeping Mississippi Valley State in a doubleheader behind extraordinary hitting and strong pitching.
The Bulldogs opened the day with a 5-3 victory before erupting for a 10-0 run-rule win in game two.
Alabama A&M set the tone early in the opener, responding to a first-inning deficit with a sacrifice fly from Hannah Wyroski to even the score. The Bulldogs continued to build momentum in the second and third innings, highlighted by an RBI double from Grace Cruthis and a go-ahead run off the bat of Tori Green. AAMU created separation in the fourth inning when Josefina Lacalle delivered a two-RBI double to push the lead to 5-2.
Lacalle led the Bulldogs with two RBIs, while Kali Austerman recorded a multi-hit performance and scored a run. Cruthis added an RBI double as part of a nine-hit effort for Alabama A&M.Â
On the mound, Kaylee Tatum earned the win after allowing two runs across four innings, while McKenna Furnari secured the save with three innings of relief.Â
Mississippi Valley State threatened late with a run in the seventh, but the Bulldogs held on to secure the 5-3 victory.
The momentum carried into game two, where Alabama A&M's offense exploded early and never looked back. After plating one run in the first inning, the Bulldogs broke the game open with a six-run second inning.
Grace Cruthis highlighted the inning with an RBI triple, while Kali Austerman and Lily Calderon each drove in runs as part of a balanced offensive attack. Alabama A&M added three more runs in the fourth inning to extend the lead to double digits, finishing with 10 runs on 10 hits.
Austerman led the Bulldogs with two hits and two RBIs, while Paula Ocrospoma added a multi-hit performance with an RBI.Â
On the mound, Dylann Rambally delivered a dominant outing, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just five hits to secure the win.Â
