DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.| The Alabama A&M University baseball team plated five runs in the second inning but could not slow down Bethune-Cookman in falling to the Wildcats, 15-5 in seven innings, during the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Saturday at Sliwa Stadium

Bethune-Cookman (28-11 overall, 14-3 SWAC) scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and jumped out to an early 6-0 lead.

Alabama A&M (8-33, 2-15) responded in the top of the second, sending nine batters to the plate.
Â
With one down in the frame,
KJ Stanfield singled to right and advanced to third when
AJ Anderson doubled to left.
Tervell Johnson followed and scored Stanfield with a base hit to left.
Colin Mason was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Miles Jackson stepped up to the plate and delivered a bases-clearing double and moved to third on a
Brycen Hammonds single to left. Jackson came around to score on a wild pitch as the Bulldogs closed the gap to 6-5.

Back came the Wildcats in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on four hits to extend the advantage to 9-5.

Bethune-Cookman picked up one run in the third and one more in the fifth to push the lead to 11-5.

The Wildcats put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 15-5 advantage.

Evan Hurlburt (0-4) took the loss as he surrendered nine runs on five hits, with five walks in 1.2 innings.

Tanner Boccabello (5-0) overcame a slow start to earn the victory. He gave up five runs on six hits, with six strikeouts and three walks in six innings. Jean Zambrano pitched the seventh in relief.

Alabama A&M concludes its weekend series at Bethune-Cookman on Sunday. First pitch against the Wildcats is scheduled for 12 p.m. (CT) from Sliwa Stadium.
