BULLDOG PROFILE: WILLIAM TARPLEY

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | William Tarpley is the kind of presence that introduces itself long before he ever says a word.

Tarpley began his collegiate career at the junior college level before spending two seasons at University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he also completed a brief stint in ROTC's Basic Camp, an experience he described simply as "a great time."

For a few short weeks, Tarpley believed his time on the diamond had come to an end. But after gaining an additional year of Division I eligibility, he knew he wasn't done just yet. Wanting to remain in the city he had grown to love, he sent an email to Head Baseball Coach Louis Whitlow, a decision that made coming to The Hill an easy one.

"I've really, really enjoyed Alabama A&M because I've learned a lot," Tarpley said, reflecting on the adversity he's faced throughout his journey and how it shaped him both on and off the field.

Growing up in Alabama, Tarpley always wanted to experience life as a Bulldog firsthand. Being on the front line of one of the state's fiercest rivalries was something he hadn't found at his previous stops, and it made his time at Alabama A&M University even more meaningful.

Despite his competitive drive, Tarpley never planned to pursue baseball professionally. Instead, he has his sights set on continuing his service to the country as a National Guardsman. When he crosses the stage in May, he'll leave behind a career marked by six starts, nearly 40 strikeouts, and no regrets.

"Everything my 10-year-old self wanted to do, I've done," Tarpley said.

He describes baseball as a game of failure where it's not a matter of if you fail, but when. That mindset has allowed him to grow from every mistake, turning setbacks into lessons that extend far beyond the field.

As his final season winds down, William Tarpley isn't just closing a chapter, he's carrying forward the discipline, resilience, and perspective the game has given him into whatever comes next.
