THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University baseball team could not get its bats going on Friday as the Bulldogs dropped the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series opener to Jackson State, 18-1 in seven innings, at the Bulldog Baseball Field.

Jackson State (18-22 overall, 8-11 SWAC) jumped out to a 6-0 lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning, three in the third and one more in the fourth.

The Tigers exploded for eight runs in the fifth, including a two-run homer by Tyree Reed, to push the advantage to 14-0.

Alabama A&M (8-35, 2-17) got on the board in the fifth when
Zak Rice homered as the Bulldogs cut the deficit to 14-1.

Jackson State responded in the top half of the sixth, scoring three runs and added one more in the seventh for the 18-1 lead.

Rice,
Brycen Hammonds and
Tervell Johnson paced the AAMU offense with one hit each.
Â
Terence Sales (0-1) took the loss as he surrendered three runs on one hit, with four walks and three strikeouts in two innings.
Antonio Torres,
Avery Seaton and
Jordan Nolley worked out of the bullpen.

Talmadge Davis (1-2) earned the complete-game victory. He gave up just one run on three hits, fanned seven and walked two in seven innings.
