Wildcats Defeat Bulldogs, 86-50

Box Score / Katrich Williams tallied a team-high 18 points and a season-high five swipes in 31 minutes of action as the Alabama A&M women's basketball team took an 86-50 loss on the road to Arizona. Williams has scored in double digits every game this season and is 75 points away from her 1,000th career point. With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to 4-5 on the season. A&M is back in action on Jan. 4 when it opens up SWAC play against Jackson State. The game is slated for 5:30 p.m.

Whiquitta Tobar had 14 points and a career-high eight boards. Brittney Carter chipped in with six points and four rebounds in 11 minutes. As a team, the Bulldogs were held to just a 26.6 shooting clip (17-for-64), while Arizona shot 63.5 percent (33-for-52). The Wildcats also held a slim 38-34 edge on the glass.

A&M kept it close in the first half, trailing 17-13 at the 11:24 mark. Arizona used a 9-2 run to push the spread to 26-15 with just over eight minutes remaining in the half. The Wildcats took a 36-26 margin heading into the lockerooms. The Bulldogs scored 14 of their 26 first half points in the paint, and forced 10 Arizona turnovers, while only committing seven.

A&M opened the second half with an 8-2 run, highlighted by two William treys to bring the Bulldogs to within four, 38-34, at the 18:18 mark. A&M would get no closer than that as the Wildcats pushed the advantage back to double digits and didn't look back.

For Arizona, four players reached in double figures. Davellyn Whyte scored a game-high 21 points off 7-of-14 shooting from the field. Saona Lucet and Brooke Jackson tallied 15 points each, while Reiko Thomas led all benchscorers with 13.

A&M is back in action on Jan. 4 at Jackson State for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
