Jackson State Sweeps Bulldogs

A&M falls to 1-7 in the conference

The Alabama A&M softball team dropped its weekend series against Jackson State, 3-0. The Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 9-2 in the first game, and 14-10 in the second game on Saturday. JSU dominated A&M on Sunday, 10-1 in the third and final meeting of the series. The Bulldogs drop to 7-13 overall, including a 1-7 mark in SWAC play. Jackson State improves to 16-16 overall and remain undefeated at 5-0 in the conference.

In game one, Re'Quincia Mack led the Bulldog offense by going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Halie Buie had two hits and a RBI. Paris Sanders went 2-for-3 on the day as well. Buie fanned five batters in seven innings pitched.

The Bulldogs were leading 8-1 heading into the top of the third inning in game two. JSU used two runs in the third to slice into the advantage for an 8-3 score. The Tigers scored 10 runs in the sixth inning to take a commanding 13-8 lead. The Bulldogs were unable to answer in the bottom of the frame and JSU scored another run in the top of the seventh. A&M scored two runs in the bottom of the inning for the 14-10 final.

Corissa Dedwyler went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Nikita Burroughs and Buie went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Game three was dominiated by Jackson State as the Bulldogs sole run came from Sabrina Hurns in the bottom of the fifth. Krissy Miles and Hurns accounted for the two Bulldog hits of the game.

A&M softball is back in action when it hosts Alabama-Birmingham for a double-header on March 31.
