Women Split Four Matches at SWAC Roundup

Bulldogs nearly 4-0 on the weekend

The Alabama A&M Bulldogs got an idea early and often of just how well they match up against the West Division of the SWAC. In four matches against Prairie View, Southern, UAPB and Grambling, the Ladies of A&M pretty much ‘held serve’ during the weekend of East vs. West play, going 2-2 with the two loses coming down to the wire.

The first match was delayed a bit and the AAMU ladies seemed to not be in rhythm, losing the doubles point. In singles, the Lady Bulldogs got just what they needed, out pointing the Lady Panthers 4-2 and getting the win.

The next morning, the Ladies of A&M seemed to be just a bit sharper with a match under their belts and got the very important doubles point against Southern. Although a strong effort was put down, the Jaguars got just enough to take a 4-3 win.

That afternoon in frigid temperatures, the Lady Bulldogs got a 7-0 win against the Ladies from PVAM.

Sunday mornings match against Grambling was dogged by injuries with the Lady Bulldogs fighting to a 3-3 tie; however, in breaking the tie, the Ladies of A&M came up one point short, evening the weekend record at 2-2.

Notable performances were turned in by freshman Te’Isha Mixon and by sophomore Alison Gladness. Mixon finished the weekend with a solid 4-0 record while Gladness posted a 3-1 mark.

The Lady Bulldogs are back in action at home on Sunday, March 8 at 1 p.m., playing host to the Lady Tigers of Tennessee State.
