Grambling wins 4-3 over A&M

Alabama A&M's women's tennis season came to an end Friday as Grambling fought back to claim a 4-3 win in the first round of the SWAC Tournament.

The Lady Tigers got the doubles point with wins at #2 and #3 doubles.  The Lady Bulldogs seemed to regroup in singles and went up 3-1.  Jasmine Cherry was first off the court with a straight set win at #4 singles, followed closely by Te’Isha Mixon’s straight set win at #1 singles.  Brittany Jelks stumbled in the 2nd set, but eventually closed the door and gained a straight set win.

“It’s disappointing that we couldn’t finish this today,” coach Thomas Colvin said.  “Our freshmen played great in singles and gave us the lead.  We just couldn’t find one more person to keep the ball in play long enough to get one more win.”

The Lady Bulldogs end the season with a 9-9 record overall.
