The Alabama A&M softball team took a major step in trying to earn a berth into the SWAC Tournament over the weekend with a series win at Jackson State. The Bulldogs took the first two games of the series, 11-9 and 10-6, before the Tigers salvaged game three, 3-2. With the pair of wins, Alabama A&M now stands at 3-8 in the conference and 6-17 overall.
Game 1 - AAMU 11, JSU 9
Hali Buie earned her first pitching victory of the season and had three hits at the plate to lead the Bulldogs. She didn't walk any Tigers and struck out three to earn the win. Jasmin Riley also had three hits for the Bulldogs. A&M built a 10-2 lead and then held on for the victory.
Game 2 - AAMU 10, JSU 6
Riley had four hits and five runs driven in to lead A&M to its first back-to-back wins since the opening two games of the season. Melanie Mechaca issued no free passes and struck out two in the complete game victory.
Game 3 - JSU 3, AAMU 2
Riley's two-run homer gave A&M the lead in the first inning, but the Tigers rallied with two runs in the sixth to avoid the sweep. Buie took the loss in the circle.
