NORMAL - The Alabama A&M softball team will open the 2011 season on Friday, Feb. 11th, in Birmingham. The Inaugural Hibbett/Easton All Alabama Classic will be played at the Vestavia Hills Sports Complex at Liberty Park.
Last season, A&M softball finished the year ranked fifth overall in the Eastern Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a 3-14 record.
“We are excited about taking our team to Birmingham and competing against other great teams in the state,” third year head coach Nedra Brown stated.
The Lady Bulldogs open the season with South Alabama at 3:30 p.m. They will conclude the evening's slate of games closing things out with a battle against Troy University with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
The Maroon and White will face Jacksonville State on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m., then conclude the day with a 1:30 p.m. match-up versus the University of Alabama. Only one game is scheduled for Sunday as the Lady Bulldogs conclude things with a 1:30 p.m. first pitch against the University Alabama-Birmingham.
The classic will mark the start of the 2011 softball season for nine Division 1 programs in the state of Alabama. Along with A&M, Alabama, Alabama State, Auburn, Jacksonville State, Samford, South Alabama, Troy, and UAB will all participate in the classic. A total of 22 games will be played from Friday through Sunday.
