NORMAL - The Lady Braves of Alcorn State University downed the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs 12-2 on Friday, April 1, in the first game of their three-game SWAC Eastern division series. This also marked the Maroon & White’s first home contest of 2011.
By the completion of fourth inning, the Lady Braves put the game out of reach totaling eight runs, four in the first, and four in the fourth. By game's end the visitors had 12 runs off of 16 hits.
Alcorn (13-16) was led by Jasmine Hubbard who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a homer, while Shawna Burton also homered for the Lady Braves.
The Maroon and White could never get it going offensively with the only exception a solo homerun in the bottom of the first by Jasmine Riley which marked her eighth of the year. With the loss A&M falls to 2-16 overall and 2-8 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, April 2. The SWAC doubleheader will be played at 11:00 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the A&M softball field.
