A&M defeats Albany State in seventh inning thriller

NORMAL - Freshmen Brianna Ziegler and Shaquille Morris & junior Nicole Norton each drove in runs in the seventh inning to propel the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs to an 8-7 win over Albany State Wednesday afternoon.

In the bottom of the first Norton roped a two RBI double to put A&M in front of ASU 2-0. Britt’s RBI single up the middle scored Samantha Cain to end the first with a 3-0 lead for the Lady Bulldogs.

Anisa Britt pitched six innings for the Maroon and White earning the win, and improving to 3-6 on the year.

The Lady Rams would not go down quietly roughing up Cassandra Berry who replaced Britt in the fifth inning scoring five unanswered runs to take a 7-5 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh Zeigler’s triple to right field scored Jasmine James to cut the ASU lead to one.

Morris then singled to right field scoring Zeigler to tie the game at seven.

With bases loaded for A&M, Norton’s single up the middle brought in Morris for what proved to be the game-winning run.

A&M ended the contest with a season high 15 hits to ASU’s 10.

The Lady Bulldogs return to action on March 23-25, as they compete in the SWAC East-West Roundups in Hattiesburg, MS.
