Lady Bulldogs post first conference win in annual SWAC Roundup

- The Alabama A&M softball team defeated Southern University 6-3 for their first league win during the Southwestern Athletic Conference softball round-up.

AAMU took an early lead in the bottom half of the second inning as Meijah McCollum and Anisa Britt scored, both with an RBI single from Shaquelle Morris and LaQueesha Poe, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

The Maroon and White added a run in the bottom of the third to increase their lead 3-0, as Britt slapped an RBI single to leftfield to advance Samantha Cain home.

SU scored their only run when Morris scored on a throwing error by the catcher increasing the lead 4-0.

A&M added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth as Jasmine Riley singled to center-field to lead off the inning and then score. Alabama A&M offense continued their assault with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Anisa Britt received the win for the Lady Bulldogs as she gave up 11 hits, three earned runs and striking out eight in seven innings in the circle.

The Lady Bulldogs tallied 11 hits, while Southern finished with just four.

In the second game AAMU fell to Prairie View 4-3.

A&M's third game against Grambling State was canceled due to bad weather.

On Sunday, Arkansas Pine Bluff was next on the schedule but faced a tough right-hander as Cassandra Brown pitched seven innings. Brown struck out seven batters and walked none.

The Lady Bulldogs combined for two runs, seven hits and no errors. They totaled just two RBI's and struck out eight times, while walking four on the day, in the 5-2 loss to UAPB.

Jasmine Riley and Meijah McCollum lead the Lady Bulldogs with two hits.

In the second game AAMU fell to Texas Southern 10-0.

The Lady Bulldogs will continue conference play when they host league rival Alabama State University. The three game series opens on Friday, March 30thwith a single game beginning at 3 p.m. and ends on Saturday, March 31st with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
