A&M Sweeps Alcorn State

LORMAN, MS - The A&M softball team completed its weekend sweep of the Alcorn State by beating the Lady Braves of Alcorn State, in a Saturday afternoon double header.
 
A&M won both games of the twin bill 5-4 and 7-5.
 
Brianna Zeigler and Anisa Britt led A&M's offensive efforts. Each recorded three hits and one run. Britt pitched a complete game to pick up the win. In seven innings of work she recorded three strikeouts.
 
In game two, A&M grabbed an early 4-1 lead, when Zeigler advanced to first on a hit by pitch. Mejiah McCollum then bunted allowing Zeigler to score from third base.

The Lady Bulldogs would score in the top of the second, third and fourth innings with one run apiece.
 
The Lady Braves would answer the call with three runs of their own to cut the lead 7-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
 
Jasmine Riley, Nicole Norton, and Fayesha Ward recorded two hits each. Riley had two RBI’s along with Ward and Samantha Cain.
 
A&M had five hits and committed one error in the contest.

Despite striking out three, pitcher Cassandra Brown earned the win for the Lady Bulldogs.

With the series sweep of Alcorn State, AAMU will advance to the SWAC Softball championship, the first time since 2007.
