A&M Softball Comes From Behind To Defeat PVAM 4-3

Box Score IRONDALE - Down three to zero Alabama A&M changed pitchers and the momentum to overtake the Lady Panthers of Prairie View 4-3 in the first round of the SWAC softball tournament, Thursday night.

Cassandra Brown came on for starting pitcher Anisa Britt who was rocked with three runs early in the game.

In the top of the fourth inning, Shaquille Morris singled with two outs and scored on a throwing error to put the Lady Bulldogs on the board, 3-1.

Brianna Zeigler tripled to score Laquisha Poe who advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt to make it 3-2. Zeigler scored on Raven Grubbs' ground out to tie the game three all.

In the top of the sixth, Morris walked and then advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on a Brown's fielder's choice to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead, its first and only of the game.

This was the Maroon and White’s first tournament victory since 2007.

Brown, who improved to 5-9 with the victory, was outstanding in relief of Britt, allowing no runs on two hits. Brown walked one, struck out two and allowed just two base runners in addition to the game-winning RBI.

A&M (14-24) moves on to play Mississippi Valley State on Friday, Mat 11th at 8.
